THOSE privileged to serve must always remember that service to humanity should be constant and a dedication to the cause of uplifting the well-being of one another, especially the indigent of society, President Edgar Lungu has said.

And President Lungu has vowed that Patriotic Front (PF) government will continue to render support to the charity work being undertaken by Lions District 413 Zambia to uplift the living standards of our communities.

“Let me remind you that there is no greater good and fulfilment one can achieve than service to humanity. at all levels of leadership, those privileged to serve must always remember that service to humanity should be a constant dedication to the cause of uplifting the well-being of one another, especially the indigent of society,” he said.

President Lungu said this during the Lions in district 413 Zambia fundraising for Melvin Jones Children’s Eye Referral Hospital at Taj Pamodzi Hotel on Saturday evening.

He said the fundraising venture towards the Melvin Jones Children’s Eye Referral Hospital to cost about US$ 2 million was a commendable gesture.

“Visual impairment among children if left untreated can cause permanent blindness. This is why we need health care services within the reach of our people to help redress such challenges.

“My government is determined to support projects which will complement our programmes aimed at bringing quality healthcare services as close as possible to our people,” President Lungu said.

The Head of State told the Lions that their efforts would certainly go a long way in addressing visual impairment among the affected children.

He said the construction of the hospital would cost colossal sums of money.

President Lungu appealed to members of the public and the corporate world to support what he termed as a noble cause.

Meanwhile, President Lungu commended district 413 Zambia for the remarkable achievement recorded following the election of lion Hastings Eli Chiti at this year’s Chicago convention in the USA, to serve on the board of the international association as international director.

“This is no mean achievement. Your election to the board has brought honour not only to your association, but to Zambia and Africa as a whole.

“I wish you the best in your new role on the international association board guiding more than 1,400,000 members worldwide, for the next two years,” President Lungu said.

He also congratulated all the Lions in Zambia for celebrating 100 years of service alongside their fellow lions worldwide.

“I urge other organisations to emulate lions in improving the status of the needy in our communities,” President Lungu said.

“Let me remind you that there is no greater good and fulfilment one can achieve than service to humanity. at all levels of leadership, those privileged to serve must always remember that service to humanity should be a constant dedication to the cause of uplifting the well-being of one another, especially the indigent of society,” he said.
