Roads works cheer Ndola residents
THE construction of township road projects under Polytechnic in Mushili, Ndola’s Bwana mkubwa constituency has elated residents.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Nation, the residents were happy that the development would bring about goodwill in the area.
A resident, Agnes Tembo, said the area had been neglected despite being one of the oldest townships in the district with a huge population.
Ms.Tembo said as a result of lack of infrastructure development and impassable roads, residents were forced to seek medical treatment and other services in neighboring townships.
Like in the rain seasons, furrows would be created in between the roads, as there was no drainage and houses would flood. But seeing the contractor on site has excited us,” she said.
And Mulenga Mupashi said the township road project would dignify the area and bring about good health as before this, the area was subjected to dust pollution.
Mr Mupashi thanked the government for the gesture.
He however urged the civic leader in the area to monitor and ensure that local people benefited from the project through jobs.
And Bwana Mkubwa MP Dr. Jonas Chanda said the ongoing township road project under Polytechnic would cover roads in Mushili, Twashuka and soon in Munkulungwe townships.
Dr. Chanda added that the Pave Zambia 2000 road project would see to it that areas such as those part of Mushili, Mackenzie, Itawa, Ndeke and Kaloko townships have better roads.
Dr Chanda said he was happy that Bwana Mkubwa Constituency, which had been neglected for many years and remained underdeveloped, was fast becoming a construction hub because of the numerous government road projects.
He disclosed that the urban road project in Ndeke Township by Gomes Contractor Gomes Construction had since been completed.
“I thank the PF government led by President Edgar Lungu for the numerous township road projects being undertaken in Bwana Mkubwa Constituency and across the country which are transforming Zambia from a mere “land-locked” country to a “land-linked,” country,” he said.
The roads currently under construction in Mushili Township include Chirundu, Dambo, Mporokoso, Lunga and Hospital Access.
Dr Chanda also assured residents of Itawa, Mackenzie, Katondo/Munkulungwe and Kaloko townships that they would also have their key roads worked on under the ongoing road projects.
