Go for convention, Tilyenji challenged

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

TRIBALISM and dictatorship in political parties should come to an end, says National Revolution Party President Cosmo Mumba.

Mr. Mumba urged United National Independence Party (UNIP) party president Tilyenji Kaunda to step down from being party president as he had over stayed in office and should leave room for democratic practices for others to take over.

“I do not understand why Mr. Kaunda will not go for a convention to come up with a leader to take over from him.

If the people in his political party choose to still vote and root for him then well and good, we will support him from there because we will know it was democratically done,” he said.

And Mr. Mumba urged United Party for National Development (UPND) party president Hakainde Hichilema to stop funding people to endorse him in Southern Province.

“The man should know when to give up and stop lying that he will be holding a convention and the practice of funding people to endorse him.

“Why is it that he was first endorsed in Southern Province of all the provinces that he could have started with to show he is for all the Zambians because that clearly shows how tribal he is.

“He is busy deceiving the people of being a democrat when his actions speak otherwise, if he had the best interests of the nation at heart he should have worked hard to assure the Zambian people he was for them regardless of their tribe.

If his presidential spokespersons also attacked him after been in his leadership, what confidence is he giving the nation at large about his qualities to rule the entire country,” he stated.
