RTSA gets K100,000, breathalyzers donations
By MUYANI SHINJABALE A FINANCIAL contribution of K100, 000 and breathalyzers worth R60, 000 have been donated to the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) by Zambia Breweries.
RTSA Chief Executive Officer, Zindaba Soko said the initiative started after RTSA and SABMiller signed a Memorandum of Understanding on September 30 of 2016.
Mr Soko said the donation significantly contributed towards RTSA’s efforts to reduce accidents in line with the United Nations Decade of Action of Reducing road traffic accidents by 2020.
“With the onset of the festive season, I would like to warn motorists that RTSA in collaboration with the Zambia Police Service will be conducting a special road traffic enforcement operation aimed at removing bad, careless and dangerous drivers from the road.
Mr. Soko stated that the offence of drinking and driving had far reaching implications that led to one risking their life, that of the passengers and other road users.
And Zambia Breweries Country Director, Moran Jose said an extra mile needed to be taken in order to create a better Zambia for the people. Mr. Jose said as a company that produced alcohol, it was important for them to support RTSA in its fight against drunk driving.
He noted that the donations made to RTSA will aid the agency in its fight against drunk driving and sensitizing communities on the dangers that alcohol abuse posed on the people.
