- By JOHN KOMBE

LUSAKA Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe's donation of K10, 000 and K20, 000 to Katende and Chongwe marketeers respectively is commendable. He is on the right track and deserves an applause, Chongwe deputy mayor Evans M'hambi has said.

Mr. M'hambi observed that the Chongwe Member of Parliament's individual initiative to empower marketeers with business finance is commendable.

"He has initiated a programme to empower marketeers with revolving funds. He has started from the central business district and I know he is not ending there. This initiative will go a long way in helping our people in the markets with a source of finance to grow their businesses," Mr. M'hambi he said.

Mr. M'hambi noted that most of the marketeers were women and youths who lack easy access to business loans. "Giving them an opportunity to expand their businesses is appreciated and cannot go unnoticed. This assistance will definitely help to alleviate the suffering of many families. Mr. M'hambi said marketeers are a very unique group of the communities who should be supported. “They are energetic and enthusiastic about growing their business for survival. Giving them a chance to have access to finance is one sure way of improving their livelihoods," he said.

Mr. M'hambi urged the market association committees at Katende and Chongwe markets to be transparent and fair in their disbursements of the funds.
