700 new jobs in agriculture coming
Dear Editor,
PRESIDENT Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s revelation that 700 extension officers will be employed by the Ministry of Agriculture is a welcome move.
Besides creating quality jobs, the new officers will help to improve service delivery across all areas of agriculture.
Zambia is in dire need of extension officers who will be able to equip our methods.
I am appealing to those who are privileged to recruit these officers to be fair and just in the recruitment exercise for the benefit of the country.
With Zambia’s external debt standing at US$7.2 billion, agriculture production can help in reducing the debt through foreign exchange earnings via exports.
And talking about this external and domestic debt of K10 billion, there is need to support government efforts of industrialisation and agriculture production to gain more foreign exchange.
It is also good to see government’s commitment in controlling over borrowing through the bill to be presented in parliament by Minister of Finance Felix Mutati.
Once the debt is reduced favourably, even poverty levels will decrease as more resources will be channelled to poverty reduction areas. Opposition
