- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

GOVERNMENT has started implementing the second phase of land allocation for Farming Cooperatives to ex-miners in North Western Province.

National Ex-Miners and Allied Workers Association of Zambia President Taulo Chewe announced this when he addressed ex-miners in Solwezi.

He disclosed that Government has already allocated land which will be given to Farming Co-operatives to be formed by ex-miners who are registered under the association.

Mr Chewe explained that the World Bank had already released funds to support the operations of the Farming Co-operatives through Government.

He said President Lungu had fulfilled the promise that he would address the challenges faced by ex-miners in the country regardless of their political affiliation.

“President Lungu promised all ex-miners in the country that he will find ways of improving their lives during his campaign and today, he has shown his commitment towards improving your lives by providing land which you will be able to use for farming ventures of your choice,” stated Mr Chewe.

He urged all ex- miners in the province to ensure that they meet all the conditions required by the Ministry of Labour and the Association in order for them to access all empowerment programmes which Government has put in place to benefit ex-miners.

Speaking during the same event, Solwezi District Commissioner Rosemary Kamalonga said President Lungu meant well for all the people of North Western Province and this could be seen through his commitment in fulfilling the promises he made to the people in the province during his election campaigns.

ShSeensdayiodur proved to everyone who criticised him during his campaign that he cares about the warfare of people in the province.

Ms Kamalonga urged ex-miners to utilise the opportunity which government had presented to them through the initiative by venturing into beneficial farming programmes.
