LAZ TOO POLITICAL

-

attempt to join in a political battle in court flopped.

Rev Kaela charged that the organisation was seemingly on a mission to aid the cartel by painting the Head of State’s character black.

LAZ was handed a K5 million bill after the Constitutional Court threw out its attempt to join the eligibility case in which five opposition leaders are seeking the court’s determination on whether President Edgar Lungu can contest the 2021 elections.

Rev Kaela said that when the church and civil society were trying hard to ensure that peace reigned in the country, LAZ had been driving a divisive agenda.

He warned that LAZ risked plunging the nation into chaos as it was advancing an agenda that was extremely dangerous and annoying some sections of society. Rev Kaela was reacting to the recent remarks by LAZ that President Edgar Lungu risked influencing the outcome of his eligibility case which was before the Constitutional Court by stating that he would stand in 2021 if the court ruled that he could.

The President had also indicated that he would respect the decision of the court.

Rev Kaela noted that LAZ was now bent on undermining the Head of State by criticising his every move when it was supposed to be neutral as the President was also a member of the association being a lawyer too.

Rev Kaela charged that LAZ had become a mouthpiece of the cartel as it seemed to be used to propagating the downfall of the current government.

“The president is trying to explain his position, as a citizen of Zambia, he has the right. What kind of influencing is there? This cartel is groping at anything that will salvage their boat which is quickly sinking. The cartel has a mouthpiece in institutions like LAZ,” Rev Kaela said

Meanwhile, Rev Kaela reiterated that the hidden agenda of the cartel would not succeed even if it infiltrated key public institutions.

He said that the current government was legitimately in office and that it had the backing of the general citizenry, organisations and the international community.

Rev Kaela said that all authority came from God and that all leaders who were legitimately in power were well protected.
