COWARDLY KAMBWILI EXPOSED
FORMER Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Chishimba Kambwili showed cowardice and irresponsibility by shunning investigations when a statutory investigative body sought information from him on allegations of corruption, former UPND spokesperson Edward Mumbi has said.
Commenting on President Edgar Lungu’s recent revelations on the dismissal of Mr Kambwili, Mr Mumbi said constitutional office holders were at all times expected to respect the law.
He said public office bearers were not expected to avoid prudence and it was shocking that Mr Kambwili had exhibited cowardice towards being investigated.
“You cannot just refuse to be investigated, that is disrespecting the President, the constitution and the people of Zambia. Mr Kambwili was very wrong to assume that since he was a minister he could not be investigated by the AntiCorruption Commission for allegations of corruption, no one is above the law and Mr Kambwili was very irresponsible in his actions,” Mr Mumbi said.
He said Mr Kambwili had abused his status as minister and President Lungu was correct to dismiss him as his actions were illegal and very disappointing for a minister.
Mr Mumbi said President Lungu was right to finally reveal the real reason for the dismissal of Mr Kambwili as speculations had escalated.
He said the revelations were long overdue but they proved that President Lungu did not tolerate corruption.
Mr Mumbi said Mr Kambwili was not fit to hold public office because he was too inconsiderate.
He said Mr Kambwili’s total disrespect and disregard for constitutional offices was puzzling.
Mr Mumbi said that President Lungu’s action against Mr Kambwili was not personal but was meant to bring sanity in all government structures.
