MCA project wins kudos
THE US$355 million Lusaka Water Supply, Sanitation and Drainage (LWSSD) Millennium Challenge Account project funded by the American government is a life saver, elated Lusaka Residents have said.
And Minister of Finance, Felix Mutati recently thanked the American people for the generous gift of the multimillion project to Zambia when he toured various construction works under the project.
The residents roundly described the project which includes water reticulation, drainage construction, sewer ponds and water tanks, among others as a life saver.
Mr Davison Nyirenda of Kalingalinga Township said that the construction of a huge drainage, the Bombay drainage, was poised to end perennial flooding in Lusaka.
Mr Nyirenda pointed out that business always came to a standstill in the Central Business District when it rained.
He said that the Bombay drain would not only improve the management of storm water in the city, but also the movement of traffic when it rained.
Mr Nyirenda thanked the American government for the project which he said had come at the right time.
“This project is really a life saver, even the flooding that we experience during the rainy season will be a thing of the past. Business comes to a standstill when it pours and the congestion is even nothing to talk about. So this drainage is timely and is poised to end perennial flooding in the city,” he said
Meanwhile, Mr Gerald Mwape of Misisi compound said that he was happy with water reticulation across the city.
Mr Mwape said that he had observed that in many areas of Lusaka, old water pipes were being replaced.
He expressed happiness that water blues and walking long distances in search of the commodity would be a thing of the past.
Mr Mwape called on Lusaka residents to ensure that the new infrastructure, which he said would beautify the city should be guarded jealously.
