Stop greedy MP-MMD

- By AARON CHIYANZO

PRESIDENT Lungu should stop the greedy Member of Parliament trying to impose a termination of title of about 70 plots in Munali as the parliamentarian has no jurisdiction to do so, Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) national secretary Raphael Nakacinda has said. An MP has been named in a land wrangle and said to be frequenting the Ministry of Lands to facilitate for the cancellation of over 70 titles given to ordinary Zambians so that the land could be given to an Asian investor. The Asian businessman has been eyeing the said piece of land so that he could put up a showroom but the plot owners have objected to the idea. And Mr Nakacinda said that the President should step in and stop the greedy MP from illegally grabbing land from rightful owners. He said that local people should not be displaced from their rightful land even if it was to pave way for foreign investments. Mr Nakacinda said in an interview that there was plenty of unutilised land where foreign investors could be allocated. “Government should step in and stop the MP, there is plenty of land and Zambians should not be displaced from their rightful land. It is outside the MP’s jurisdiction to impose a termination of title of about 70 plots in Munali. That should not be allowed here in Zambia,” he said. Meanwhile, Mr Nakacinda said that plot owners should be engaged using proper channels and that they reserved the right to disagree if not satisfied with the terms of agreement. He said that people should not be displaced without compensation from their rightfully acquired land. Mr Nakacinda pointed out that land legally acquired and on title was being dubiously repossessed and sold to investors at exorbitant prices. He charged that it was shameful that Zambians were being left in the cold because of a few greedy powerful individuals. Mr Nakacinda stressed that the vice should immediately be stopped as the government risked losing the confidence of the people if left unchecked.
