HH INSENSITIVITY WORRISOME

-

Dear Editor

I AM amazed that HH is still insisting that he won the 2016 elections. If anything he should be ashamed that the bulk of his votes came from his home province which gave him nearly 99 percent support or more than half of the total votes cast.

This is not the record of a person who should be a national leader.

All the Presidents that have won elections in Zambia have carried the day in most regions of the country, otherwise they would have been called sectional leaders.

It is dangerous to have a leader who is predominantly and almost “mysteriously” overwhelmingly voted for in his region by a margin of more than 90 percent when the national average out turn is about 40 percent.

It is not just the figures that should bother HH, it is regional representation that should matter.

Hilary Clinton won the popular vote in the US but lost the election because the country has been given specific weights to ensure proper representation.

It is true that HH got a number of votes outside Southern Province but these could not match the number he got from his own province.

This says something very serious about the character of the candidate.

Sectional interests should not be allowed in Zambia because the greater aggregate of national interest will rise against a sectional leader who does not have the support of the rest of the country.

My advice is that the UPND should shake off the tribal character and embrace the rest of the country in order to bring a leader who will muster the support of as many citizens as possible.

The incendiary language uttered and absolute denial that HH is exhibiting is a danger to the country and all those concerned must make sure that currency is not. He cannot continue to claim that the vote was stolen when he lost clean and square in areas which have a mixtures of tribes such as Copperbelt and Lusaka.

Zambians must guard against HH bitterness. Edmond Katulwendo Kitwe
