PF ready to resolve thorny issues

- By CHIKUMBI KATEBE

THE ruling Patriotic Front is well prepared to deal with the numerous challenges that have engulfed the party in the aftermath of the 2016 general elections, says former Lusaka mayor and provincial treasurer Daniel Chisenga.

Mr Chisenga said it was gratifying to note that the party was on top of the situation to ensure all challenges were given adequate attention to allow for all members to work towards the strengthening of the party structures at all levels.

He said the Lusaka conference was an indication of the strong attachment the party had with its membership at the grassroots to maintain and grow communication with the members of the central committee.

“The initiative for the Lusaka provincial conference was timely for a serious political reflection particularly after one year of electing the party president and party leadership.

“I believe this meeting has set a stage for better perspective of the state of the ruling party in the province, and with the Vice President (Ms Inonge Wina) as guest of honour, it was a good move to help iron out the issues being brought out in good time before the nation goes back to the polls,” Mr Chisenga said.

He explained that the party could not ignore some of the problems being exposed through such interactions with the national leadership including the departure of some members which should raise alarm.

Mr Chisenga said it was a timely meeting that called for political introspection of the party at provincial level, as it could not have realised what was happening on the ground.

He explained that with all the concerns raised in the presence of the Vice President, the central committee members would find better avenues of dealing with the issues raised to grow numbers and strengthen the party structures.

“There have been a lot of movement recently within and out of the PF, and if we as a province decided to ignore that fact, it could have been dangerous but we needed to ensure we put our members together and all the structures are intact,” Mr Chisenga said.

He said the PF meeting was very helpful in ironing out issues between members especially that a lot of questions were answered to pave way for the forthcoming intra-party elections.
