UTILISE OPPORTUNITIES, URGES CHIEF MUMENA
CHIEF Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people in North Western Province says there is need to take advantage of the vast development opportunities that are still yawning in the area.
He said the province had a lot of opportunities for development but that they had not been utilised well.
"I think we have had too many opportunities and we want to see action now,” he said.
He said it was not enough to just hold on to opportunities without corresponding action adding that he would love to see leaders that would ensure opportunities were turned into wealth.
"Leadership is about being a link between the grassroots and the national leadership and no leader can thrive when they leave out the grassroots,” he added.
The chief said he was concerned with the misinformation and negative reports coming from the province and finding its way to national level. Such misinformation was from within political circles, he added.
The traditional leader was speaking when PF provincial chairperson Jackson Kungo and his entire executive called on him at his palace.
He said there was need to reduce innuendos and negative reports about individuals, organisations and traditional leaders.
He stated that the negative reports were not building the province ut instead denting its image.
"The next thing you hear is that this traditional leader is not doing this and that. And such people may not even have a platform to defend themselves.
This should come to an end,” the traditional leader lamented.
He assured the provincial executive committee of the royal establishment's support.
And Mr Kungo said the party leadership in the province would always endeavour to engage all stakeholders including traditional leaders in the province.
He said President Edgar Lungu had shown willingness and commitment to work with traditional leaders by creating the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs.
"So even us, we want to emulate his excellence President Edgar Chagwa Lungu by also embracing and engaging traditional leaders at all costs," he said.
