Taxman lends a hand to cops
THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has donated furniture to the newly built police post in Kwamwena located Meanwood residential area.
The police post, which is expected to be opened in a few weeks’ time, is an initiative of the Kwamwena residents who put funds together following rampant thefts in the area.
The furniture donated by the tax authority includes six office tables, 13 chairs, three steel filing cabinet, one steel filing rack and one visitors bench. Speaking when he handed over the donations yesterday, ZRA commissioner general, Kingsley Chanda said the authority was encouraged by the residents’ initiative to put up a police post.
Mr. Chanda said it was prudent that responsible organisations such as ZRA should complement these efforts.
“Going into 2018, as ZRA we commit that the vulnerable and other will receive their share of the warmth and caring hearts of ZRA officers through our revolutionized corporate social responsibility that has been reloaded,” he said.
Mr. Chanda said it was ZRA’s resolve to not only to collect taxes but also respond to the challenging needs of the society.
And Lusaka Province Minister, Japhen Mwakalombe, said initiative by residents demonstrated that Government could count on citizens in contributing to service provision.
Mr. Mwakalombe, who accepted the donation on behalf of the residents, said people in the area would now able to have peaceful nights with the coming of a police post in the area.
Meanwhile association chairperson, Wiseman Chauluka, thanked ZRA for the gesture which he said would go a long way in ensuring that the post operates efficiently.
