LCC officially accepts KYN project

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

THE Lusaka City Council has recognised the Know Your Neighbour (KYN) concept as the quickest way of responding to garbage and crime issues in Kapwepwe Ward where the project is being piloted.

In a letter written to Kapwepwe Ward 25 Councillor Patrick Salubusa, Lusaka Town Clerk Alex Mwansa said the Know Your Neighbour (KYN) project was an initiative with the overall goal of changing the mind-set of residents towards crime and solid waste management.

Mr Mwansa said the project would be achieved with the participation of residents of Kapwepwe Ward 25 and Lusaka City Council officials.

He said the project in its pilot stage had proved that it could help tackle crime and garbage issues.

“I have the pleasure to inform you that you have been appointed to the Know Your Neighbour Team. KYN is an initiative with the overall goal of changing the mind-set of residents towards crime and garbage,” Mr Mwansa said.

Mr Mwansa congratulated Mr Salubusa on his appointment to the project team and encouraged him to be above board in championing the aspirations of the project.

Mr Salubusa thanked Lusaka Mayor Wilson Kalumba and Mr Mwansa on his appointment and for believing in his initiative.

The civic leader said once the project was fully rolled out in his ward as a pilot, it would change the face of Kapwepwe Ward for the better.

Mr Salubusa expressed gratitude to his fellow councillors whom he said have been supportive since the idea was mooted.

He said his colleagues had continued to inquire from him on how they could implement the initiative in their various wards as a tool to tackle crime and garbage issues.
