Livingstone Pirates FC interim committee dissolved
By ANDREW MUKOMA THE Livingstone City Council, the main sponsors of FAZ Division One South, Livingstone Pirates Football Club has dissolved the club’s interim executive committee.
The dissolution of the interim committee which was led by Shalom Buses regional manager and businessman Bimaele Phiri was with immediate effect.
The local authority had cited serious internal strife among members as the main reason for the dissolution.
According to a letter addressed to Phiri dated December 18, 2017, and obtained by the Daily Nation, acting Livingstone Town Clerk Gertrude Chibiliti said the decision to dissolve the committee was arrived at during a management meeting which was held on November 9, 2017.
Chibiliti further advised Phiri to handover all important documents which belonged to the club and also submit a comprehensive report concerning the club.
“You are advised to handover to the office of the director housing and social services with immediate effect from the date of receipt of this letter all important documents as well as a comprehensive report pertaining to the club,” the letter read in parts.
When contacted for a comment, Phiri acknowledged being in receipt of the letter from the acting Town Clerk over the dissolution of his committee.
He was thankful to the Council for bestowing him an opportunity to be part of the club as the interim executive chairperson.
The outgoing chairman said he was leaving the office a happy man who had achieved a lot during his tenure of office at the club.
“I am leaving the office as a happy man who did a lot for the club. I repaired the club bus using my personal funds, I bought 75 soccer balls for the club and I also acquired a new kit for the club,
“Additionally, I was looking after more than 20 players using my own resources and that to me is a big success and I thank management for giving me that opportunity to exercise my leadership skills,” he said.
Meanwhile, some football administrators in Livingstone have condemned the council’s decision to dissolve the Bimaele committee.
Those talked to expressed shock that after helping the club to the level where it was today without the council’s support, management could decide to dissolve the interim committee without giving them an opportunity to air out their grievances.
The dissolution of the interim committee is backed by the Club’s Constitution clause XIX, which states that “the executive shall be dissolved by management arising out of a recommendation of the director health and social services under which the department shall have powers to appoint an interim executive to run the affairs of the club,
“Such recommendations shall arise from financial irregularities, misappropriation, misapplication, fraud and serious internal feud in the executive to the detriment of the football club”.
