SHOT IN THE ARM FOR CHIYEKE HEALTH CENTRE
A LOCAL charitable organisation in Chavuma has donated assorted items to Chiyeke Rural Health Centre worth K16, 000.
Chavuma district commissioner Benjamin Mufunga received the donation on behalf of government yesterday from the Upahu Foundation which operates under the auspices of the Christian Community Church (CCC).
He said the Church played a pivotal role in supplementing government’s efforts to help alleviate suffering among vulnerable community members.
Mr Mufunga said it is the wish of government to partner with local stakeholders who had the passion to uplift the living standards of people in the district and that that the gesture shown by Upahu Foundation should be emulated by all churches and all Zambians.
He noted that churches should focus on helping the vulnerable groups in society and desist from engaging in active politics.
The district commissioner further urged the management at Chiyeke Rural Health Centre to ensure that the donated items were put to good use and given to intended beneficiaries.
And speaking earlier Upahu Foundation Co-coordinator Selwa Chilombo said her organisation was founded with the principles of serving the needy in communities around Chavuma District.
"It is therefore a delight to be of service to the people that are admitted to Chiyeke Rural Health Centre," she said.
She disclosed that Upahu Foundation had distributed 9 X 90kg bags of maize seed to vulnerable families in the area.
"And as a foundation we are encouraging community members to venture in farming as a way of eradicating poverty," she added.
Meanwhile, CCC elder Christopher Chifwelu said the donation signified Biblical teachings that instruct Christians to cloth and feed the poor.
