Mukinge Hospital bemoans faulty incinerator

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

FOR some time now, Mukinge Mission Hospital in Kasempa has been operating without an incinerator and this was making it difficult for the institution to dispose of medical waste.

Acting executive director Kingsley Kuwema said hospital management had failed to hire experts to repair it because of contractual obligations with government who supplied it.

‘’Therefore, it is only a government technician who is supposed to work on it,’’ Mr Kuwema said.

He stated that the facility was an important tool for the institution in terms of disposing of medical wastes.

‘’We have been communicating with the ministry and the district commissioner’s office almost on a weekly basis but nothing has been done,’’ he said.

He appealed to government to quickly send a technician so that the facility could be worked on.

And Mr Kuwema disclosed that Mukinge Nursing School did not have a kitchen of its own but depended on the hospital kitchen.

He however said, management was working hard to source for funds to set up a kitchen for the nursing school.

‘’So, it is a very big challenge for us especially that there is a distance between the hospital and the nursing school,’’ he added.

Meanwhile, Mr Kuwema has appealed to well-wishers to come on board and help the health institution put up a mother’s shelter.
