‘Cooperate with security wings in the clean-up’

- By SANDRA MACHIMA

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has asked the general public to stay calm and cooperate with the security wings that are cleaning up the Lusaka central business district and other affected areas in Lusaka, following the outbreak of cholera.

President Lungu comforted the traders that Soweto market , the Central Business District (CBD) and other trading places that have been closed would be reopened after a couple of days when the cleaning exercise was completed.

This follows his call for the immediate ban of street vending and closure of Soweto and other affected markets to stop the spread of cholera that had characterised some parts of Lusaka.

And the President has engaged the military in enforcing and maintaining sanitation in Lusaka and declared Lusaka a cholera emergency area.

He however urged residents in Lusaka to give the defense wings maximum cooperation as they carried out the cleanup exercise.

President was speaking after attending mass at Divine Mercy Catholic Church in State Lodge area in Lusaka yesterday.

He said he sympathised with the affected traders following the disruption of their trading activities as a result of the clean-up exercise, saying the clean-up was part of the remedial measures put in place to contain the outbreak and spread of cholera in the capital city.
