Pule backed over Kambwili

- By CHARLES MUSONDA

CHISHIMBA Kambwili should desist from politics of character assassination and provide cordial alternatives, the Network for Young People against Violence (NYPV) has said.

NYPV president Moses Kalonde said that Christian Democratic Party (NDP) president Dr. Dan Pule was right when he advised the Roan Member of Parliament to desist from politics of character assassination.

On Saturday, Dr. Pule told the Daily Nation that in a democratic dispensation, the best way to sell oneself was to give the electorate alternatives.

“Politics of personalities is not what will win someone an election. In my opinion, those that are opposing President Lungu and the PF should give the people the alternatives of what they will do better than President Lungu.

“For those who worked with him for quite some time, it is not justifiable to come and find faults in President Lungu just because they are not in his government. My advice will be that those that have left him, those that he has fired like young brother Chishimba Kambwili, they should tell the people the difference they will make from what they did when they were with him and what policies they will embark on,” Dr. Pule said.

He said in any case, Mr. Kambwili was known to be PF Member of Parliament since he had disputed his expulsion from the ruling party.

“Therefore, I believe that he should just step out and say he is no longer going to concentrate on his court case and tell the people what he will do in his political path, the difference he will make and leave the PF alone in terms of belonging as a Member of Parliament.

“He may not have been happy with the way he was expelled, but now that he has clearly held himself to be anti PF, anti President Lungu, he may as well accept his expulsion then move on and fight it out in the political arena as an opposition leader.”

And in an interview yesterday, NYPV president Moses Kalonde echoed Dr. Pule’s remarks.

Mr. Kalonde said criticizing government without providing alternatives was not a solution in itself.

“It is one thing to identify flaws, challenges, problems that this government is grappling with but it is another thing to offer solutions and alternatives. If Honourable Kambwili is just bent on criticizing without really putting solutions forward, then he is irrelevant to the equation.

“If they have formed NDC, what are the alternatives that they are giving to the ruling PF which the people of Zambia must follow? As far as we are concerned, such kind of mediocrity should not be condoned, should not be tolerated,” Mr. Kalonde said

He added: “You cannot say that you are the savior of the people of Zambia yet you are not offering any solutions. We take cognizance of the fact that NDC is in its infancy but what are their policies?”
