Mwanakatwe donates foodstuffs to the needy

LUSAKA Central Member of Parliament Margaret Mwanakatwe has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the aged and under privileged in her constituen­cy.

Ms Mwanakatwe made her donations in Bauleni Compound, Silwizya Ward in Chilulu and in Kangwanda village in State Lodge area.

On Thursday, Ms Mwanakatwe donated 288 25 kilograms bags of mealie meali and food hampers to the aged in Chilulu and later on Friday donated 150 bags of mealie meal and hampers in Kangwanda village.

She said she would continue giving back to the aged and less privileged as part of her routine community support programme.

She said the gesture of reaching out to the aged was not just during Christmas period.

Ms Mwanakatwe said she was aware of the many challenges the aged were facing in her constituen­cy.

She would ensure that women and youths were empowered and become entreprene­urs.

Ms Mwanakatwe, who is Commerce, Trade and Industry minister said it was unacceptab­le that women were most vulnerable in society when they were charged with the responsibi­lity of running homes.

“I'm very happy to be here today to give you some hampers, I am doing this because I love you all very much and I am grateful that your prayers for me have kept me going , without you all I am nothing, that is why I want to show my appreciati­on to you all in this little way,” said Ms Mwanakatwe .
