Cholera hub shifts to Mandevu Clinic

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

THE cholera centre has been shifted from Chipata Level One Hospital to Mandevu clinic whose aim is to separate cholera patients and prevent new infections, says Justin Kabwe councillor Teddy Mwaba.

Mr Mwaba said it was decided to isolate cholera patients from Chipata Level One Hospital to Mandevu clinic following a stakeholders’ meeting.

He said cholera cases were not reducing because cholera patients were not separated between the two health facilities hence causing fresh infections.

In an interview yesterday, the civic leader said a sensitisation campaign in the community at household level was conducted to help fight cholera.

Mr Mwaba said the community had been busy putting in place mitigating measures against the waterborne disease since the outbreak in October.

He expressed gratitude to Mandevu Member of Parliament Jean Kapata who joined in the door-to-door sensitisation of the compound and prodded residents to exercise best hygiene practices.

Mr Mwaba was happy to find Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) staff who unblocked sewer manholes in the affected areas.

He appealed to the community to remain calm because the shifting of the cholera centre to Mandevu clinic which was a temporal mechanism.

He appealed to the church to help government in the fight against cholera by sensitising residents.

Mr Mwaba warned that bars as well as public places such as schools without toilets and running water risked being closed down as way of combating the spread of cholera.
