Opposition political parties should be more serious in 2018
Dear Editor,
AS WE start 2018, I wish to make an earnest appeal to our opposition political parties to re-organise themselves and become relevant to Zambian politics.
If they are going to carry on like they did in 2017, then they can rest assured that they will be on the terraces for many years to come.
In particular I wish to make a special appeal to Zambia’s biggest opposition party the UPND, that time for crying over spilt milk is long gone.
It is time for hard work as 2021 approaches. This is not time for kissing roads in rituals but openness and telling people truths.
Zambia has serious social and economic challenges which need quick solutions for the benefit of the citizens. The danger is that when people have nothing to do, they resort to telling lies.
UPND is already on record about telling people in Western Province (one of his strongholds) that only UPND could bring development to the province. How?
I know that there is a lot of shame in losing but that does not mean that people should lose direction and begin to live in selfdenial.
For instance HH insistence that he will not recognize President Lungu as the republican president, where does that leave him? This squawking and kicking by HH is totally useless and will NEVER change the political landscape in Zambia.
Zambians and the international community know just too well that President Lungu is the dulyelected president of the republic of Zambia.
Now to begin to tell people that UPND is still challenging the election of President Lungu in courts of law is certainly a bizarre lie and worst figment of imagination to have come from HH.
Indeed there are those oneman opposition parties which only surface during elections for donor funding, these too should either become more active or consider shutting down altogether. Opposition political parties are there to offer checks and balances to the ruling party not offer insults and disrespect.
