ZDDM SLAMS KAMBWILI TRIBAL BALANCE CALLS

- By CHITE MTONGA

CHISHIMBA Kambwili is playing double standards by calling for tribal balancing, the Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) has accused.

The ZDDM said it was surprising that Mr Kambwili was calling for tribal balancing when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was already fashioned to support tribalistic tendencies.

ZDDM President Edwin Sakala said the composition of the NDC from its inception did not reflect a party that was inclusive of all tribes.

Mr Sakala told the Daily Nation that the foundation of every political party was important for the philosophy and principles it would eventually subscribe to.

He said the NDC’s founder members did not depict any inclusiveness of tribe when selecting the top leadership of the party.

“We believe Mr Kambwili is being untruthful by saying that the NDC is tribally balanced or even to call for tribal balance in the party. It is only a fact that that party was formed by individuals who are not only from the same tribe, but are even related.

“Look at the people who have joined the NDC, I think we know who the spokesperson is, the secretary general and the consultant, these are the people who formed the party,” Mr Sakala said.

He said Mr Kambwili was not in apposition to talk about tribalism in the party because it was mere hypocrisy.

Mr Sakala further disclosed that those members who had joined the NDC were mainly individuals who failed to co-exist with new members of the PF.

“Politics is about numbers, but what we have discovered is that people in the NDC were protesting that the real PF members had been overlooked. But the issue is that no one is a permanent member of any political party, because even Late President Michael Sata himself came from the MMD and even Kambwili and Musenge to form the NDC came from somewhere, so we must understand that these people just want to get into power at all cost,” he said.
