Garden gets new road

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

KANELE road, which is an important route in Garden compound, has been upgraded from gravel to bituminous standard in the Lusaka 400 kilometre (L400) phase two project, says Patriotic Front Ngwerere ward 19 councillor Adrian Banda.

Mr. Banda said the ward had received a fair share of roads which would be upgraded to bituminous standard in the L400 phase two road and drainage project.

He said the contractor working on the roads in the ward had informed him that due to onset of the rains, the company would go on break until this April.

In an update over the weekend, the civic leader said after the rains, the contractor would work on another key road Pendela, which stretches from Garden police post to Roma Township.

“As Ngwerere ward 19, we have received a fair share of roads to be tarred from the L400 phase two project, which started in May last year. We have seen the first and important Kanele road upgraded from gravel to bituminous standard.

“When the rains end, the contractor is expected to work on another road within Garden compound,” Mr Banda said.

Mr Banda said some parts of Pendela road had become impassable after the rains worsened its state.

He said, he has organised fellow youths to patch up the road using rubble to make it a bit passable.

Mr Banda said this was a temporary measure while the community awaited the contractor to be on site.
