Police officer runs over pedestrian, runs away

A police officer of Kabompo Police Station yesterday hit a male pedestrian by the name of John Mwamba aged between 16 and 20 of Musamba area and ran away.

North Western province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka confirmed the incidence in a statement and identified the suspect as Detective Chief Inspector Edwin Simwaba.

Mr Daka said the incident occurred yesterday around 02:00 hours along the Zambezi Ka- bompo M8 road at Kabompo hospital junction.

He said Simwaba whilst driving a Toyota Ipsum hit into the pedestrian and decided to run away.

“And after investigations, it was discovered that the vehicle was being driven by the officer in question, “Mr Daka said.

He said the victim died in the spot after sustaining fatal head injuries.

“And the suspect has been arrested and will be charged with causing death by dangerous driv- ing, “he added.

Meanwhile, police in Kabompo have picked a dead body for a 23 year old man who was found dumped in the bush near Kabompo hospital.

He said the body of the deceased identified as Maseka Kakoma was found in a decomposed state with a deep cut on the chest.

He said the deceased who is believed to have been killed 4 days earlier elsewhere before being dumped was identified by his brother in law.
