Family taken to task over filth

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

A CIVIC leader in Matero constituency has taken a household in Desai compound to task for failing to cooperate with the Know Your Neighbour Project (KYNP) on the needs to observe cleanliness.

The civic leader was unhappy that the family’s residence had poor sanitary conditions, yet the landlord and tenants were reluctant to cooperate with the initiative on the value of cleanliness.

Patriotic Front Kapwepwe 25 councillor Patrick Salubusa told the Daily Nation at the weekend that his office received a report that a household in Desai was keeping its surroundings untidy and in deplorable sanitary conditions.

He said this prompted his office to pay the household an early morning surprise visit.

He said he was happy that the heated meeting ended up with the landlord and his tenants joining the Desai ‘A’ Know Your Neighbor ( KYN) Club and agreeing to its terms and conditions.

Mr Salubusa said the affected households had since been given this weekend to clean up and change the image of the residence for the better.

He said the KYN project was spreading like wild fire in Kapwepwe ward 25 as residents had come on board considering that knowing each other and working together as neighbours was the quickest way to having a safe and clean environment.

Mr Salubusa said through the project, which was introduced mid last year and scheduled to be officially launched next month, a total number of 20 households had come together to initiate the KYN Club with its own executive committee to handle safety and cleanliness related issues in the neighbourhood.

The councillor said the formation of the KYN clubs in Kapwepwe ward as the quickest response to crime and garbage related issues was progressing well.

Mr Salubusa said he visited Lilanda Site 5 and formed Twalumba KYN Club behind Twalumba Primary School.

He was happy that the response from the selected households was excellent and that the composition of the interim executive committee for the same was exciting as it brought people from different backgrounds to sit on the same team.
