DAMASCUS CHITENGE the 13-year-old albino boy of Nchelenge who is fighting a suspected cancerous tumour has been transferred to the University Teaching Hospital.

Chitenge is admitted to the Children’s Hospital and his condition is said to be serious.

Albino Foundation of Zambia president, John Chiti, confirmed to Daily Nation that the foundation provided transport money to enable the boy and his family travel to Lusaka for specialist treatment at the UTH.

“We sent the family transport money to enable the boy travel to Lusaka for the needed treatment,” Mr. Chiti said.

Cancer Diseases Hospital public relations officer Terrence Nyirongo confirmed Chitenge had been admitted to the Children’s Hospital for initial tests. He said he had not yet been referred to the Cancer Diseases Hospital.

“Before a patient is referred to the Cancer Diseases Hospital the patient has to undergo a test and that should be the case for Chitenge who has to be diagnosed and confirmed first at the Children Hospital before been referred to the Cancer Diseases Hospital pediatrics ward for cancer treatment,” he said.

He also added that once referred the patient would need a treatment plan before the start of any treatment. This is done in order to know the type of cancer and how far the diseases has progressed.

“We have a multi-disciplinary body that looks into the patient case so as to find out the interventions that have to be undertaken and the type of treatment,” he added.

The young boy of Chofwe Kabili Village has been living in pain and was getting weak according to his grandmother, who has accompanied him.
