NCC shuts down 156 food and beverage trading units

NDOLA City Council (NCC) has shut down 156 food and beverage trading units in Masala of Ndola.NCC Public Relations Manager, Tilyenji Mwanza said the action to shut down the trading units was followed by an inspection by the Local Authoritie to check compli-ance of bars and restaurant­s to health demands.Ms Mwanza noted that the Council had opted to continue with a proactive approach to Cholera despite the city having no current Cholera patient under treatment.In an interview with the Daily Nation, the Public Relations Manager said the City had so far received a cumulative record of three Cholera cases with the last one recorded last week of which the patient had since been dis-charged.“However, the current zero re-cording is not any comfort to the Local Authority who have opted to scale up the cleaning exercise in the city by clearing solid waste, continuous inspection of trading premises, sensitizat­ion and edu-cation of prevention of Cholera or any other Diarrhoeal disease.“T he Local Authority is happy that residents have so far will-ingly helped and taken part in the sporadic cleaning exercises in the city. “In Masala Market B which is the epicentre for the outbreak in the city, The Deputy Mayor Mr. Kennedy Kasaba led a team of inspectors and cleaners, also pre-sent was Chichele ward councillor Janet Kasengele.“The deputy mayor this morn-ing instructed that the market be closed for 3hrs as they thoroughly cleaned the trading place as well as disinfecte­d it, ”she said.Ms Mwanza noted that all trad-ers complied with the directive and also participat­ed in the gen-eral cleaning exercise willingly.Ms Mwanza said in Masala, Area Councillor Andronicus Katuya also called for the close of the Masala Market shelter in the morning until the premise re-ceived a thorough cleaning which was done by the marketeers with the aid of Council employees.“And in Itawa Area Councillor Mr. Lajab Phiri has embarked on residentia­l cleaning exercise by requesting people in his ward to keep their surroundin­gs clean as well as unlock and desilt drain-ages in his ward, “she added.
