LUSAKA CENTRAL MP INTENSIFIES COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP

- By MOSES SINJWALA

THE clean-up exercise to avert the possible spread of cholera has been intensified in Bauleni Compound.

This follows an ambitious schedule by Lusaka Central Constituency Member of Parliament, Margaret Mwanakatwe to ensure residents adhered to the cleanup exercise.

The MP has been conducting spot checks to ensure that residents are adhering to high standards of hygiene.

She has since toured her constituency including some parts of the Central Business District-CBD-in an effort to encourage the residents and trades to continue on the cleanup exercise.

She also took time to listen to complaints from the electorate in Bauleni Township, where she assured them of her commitment to working on the projects that were pending in the area.

Mathews Daka, a youth representative who spoke on behalf of the other youths in the area, asked the area MP to create more time and a platform for them so that they can be able to show case their ideas and projects and not just to wait upon government to bring relief aid to them.

“We need to have a proper platform with you so that we can show case our project and other initiatives that we have come up with and need urgent financial support. Time for politicking has already gone, this is time for work and us as youths we just need your support in some of our developmental projects for the benefit of our community’’ he said.

And Mrs Mwanakatwe has pledged to support young people in the area that will come up with developmental projects.

“I will support your projects and see how best we can lobby for funding and bring them to fruition, what you have shown me today is want I have been asking for. Not for me to come to your homes and buy mealie meal, that won’t develop us. I assure you that we shall have that platform and I will see to it that your projects and ideas are implemented,” she said.

She also took time to encourage councilors in her constituency and check on the projects that were ongoing, among them the civic centre clinic which was under construction but was supposed to be completed and opened in the first week of January but was stalled due to delays by the council in releasing the remaining funds on the project which she assured would be opened early February.

“This is a central and advantageous point for the people in the area of civic centre and there is need quickly to finish up the remaining parts so that the clinic can be opened and help decongest Sikanze police camp hospital,” she said.
