Choppies Solwezi closed

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

A COMBINED team of council health inspectors from the Ministry of Health and officers from security wings have closed Choppies chain store in Solwezi for operating in unsanitary conditions.

The chain store was closed yesterday following an operation that was conducted in the Central business District (CBD) in view of the cholera outbreak in Lusaka and some other towns including Kitwe.

Solwezi Municipal council Assistant Public Relations manager Esther Chirwa told the Daily Nation in an interview that the decision was arrived at after noticing that there was some sewer on the loan of the chain store.

“So a preventative measure to avoid the possible outbreak of cholera we had no option but to close the chain store,” Ms Chirwa said.

She stated that the facility will only be opened after the sewer system was worked on.

She said the move was aimed at preventing a possible cholera outbreak in the district.

"As we may all be aware that Copperbelt is hit with the pandemic and Solwezi is close to the effected province, so we don't want to take any chances at all.

"And the facility will only be opened after the sewer system is worked and when health inspecENGLISH tors are satisfied that it is in conformity with the required standard, " she said.
