Police officers warned

…Expect decisive and punitive action going forward

- By AARON CHIYANZO

ERRING police officers involved in criminal activities and wrong doing should expect punitive action as Government has resolved to maintain high levels of discipline to bring sanity to the service, minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo has warned.

Mr Kampyongo said that the three officers who were nabbed over the K2.4 million counterfeit notes should serve as an example that no one was above the law.

He warned that police officers involved in criminal activities and wrong doing should expect punitive action from both command and government.

Mr Kampyongo said during a programme on Radio Christian Voice that his office was privy to information that police officers, who were supposed to guard against law breakers, were the ones breaking the law with impunity.

He however warned that government, together with the Inspector General had resolved to take decisive action against erring officers to maintain high levels of discipline among the men and women in uniform.

Mr Kampyongo, who is Shiwang’andu Member of Parliament, assured that sanity would be restored to the Police Service following robust plans that had been lined up going forward.

“Going forward, we are not going to accept having wrong doers hide behind the uniform. We have agreed with the police command that this will be the year to clean up and to ensure that we maintain high standards of discipline,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Kampyongo commended the Drug Enforcement Commission for being vigilant enough not to be deceived by the culprits found with fake notes, even when they were colleagues.
