Kabwe mayor fumes over sloppy dept
By KETRA KALUNGA KABWE Mayor, Prince Chileshe was yesterday incensed by the department of housing and resettlement’s failure to send about 30 invitation letters to stakeholders for a meeting to discuss works in markets, bus stations and other trading premises.
Stakeholders from markets, bus stations and the business sector and corporate world could not attend the meeting as they did not receive invitation letters. The visibly annoyed Mayor told the gathering that was only attended by councillors and the media that it was saddening to see that stakeholders whose input was vital were absent. “I’m very annoyed that stakeholders whose input is very vital to this meeting are absent simply because the department of housing and resettlement failed to distribute about 30 invitation letters to them. This is a very important meeting in the Keep Kabwe Clean campaign which has unfortunately failed to take off ,” said the mayor. Mr Chileshe directed that the invitation letters be sent before 14 hours yesterday to stakeholders who include among others market and vendors associations, Lunsemfwa Hydro power station, Lukanga Water and Sewerage Company, Zambia Railways Limited and Zambia Aluminum Company for the meeting which has been rescheduled to tomorrow. The meeting was meant to devise ways on how to improve sanitation in markets where some street vendors have been integrated.
