Mazyopa residents vaccinated

RESIDENTS of Mazyopa compound have begun queuing up for the oral cholera vaccines at Kaonga Community School which is aimed at preventing and reducing the cases of the epidemic in the country.

Speaking during the launch of the oral cholera vaccine Minister of Chiefs and Traditiona­l affairs Lawrence Sichalwe said the vaccine was another measures that government had taken to prevent further outbreaks. Mr Sichalwe said government was trying everything possible to ensure that a lot of lives were saved during this period of the cholera epidemic and that the oral vaccine was one of them.

He advised the people of Mazyopa that once the oral cholera vaccine was administer­ed on them they should not relax by keeping their surroundin­gs dirty.

“Once you are vaccinated you will be given cards these cards don't throw them away keep them well you will need them for the second dose of vaccine after two weeks. “Our reason for been here is to launch the oral cholera vaccine once you get the vaccine please don’t live a careless life observe the preventive measures to avoid cholera such as simple rules of boiling drinking water and taking care of your surroundin­gs please live a clean life,” he said.

The minister said he was impressed with the turnout of the people in the community and that it was very encouragin­g to see them partner with government to ensure that cholera was curbed in the area. He assured the residents that government was doing its best to ensure that water sanitation in the affected areas was improved as it was one of the reasons why cholera had hit the country.

Meanwhile US medical office for Center for Disease Control and Perversion (CDC) country director Simon Agolory said he was excited to see the works that government was doing to control the spread of cholera in the country. Mr Agolory said CDC had supported the control of the cholera outbreak in many countries and was aware that if the members of the community took responsibi­lity they could control the epidemic.
