SOTAMBE film festival to celebrate filmmakers this year

- By TERENCE MISELO

THE SOTAMBE Documentary Film and Arts Festival (SOTAMBE DFAF) will this year dedicate its efforts to celebrating Zambian filmmakers.

According to a statement meant to call for submissions for the festival that comes later this year, the institution has planned its programmes this year under the theme, “These are the Days – Celebrating a Zambian Filmmaker”.

This comes with the recognition that the Zambian film industry has made tremendous strides especially in the last year 2017. “The theme is in keeping with and celebrate the developments taking place in the Zambian Film Industry. The Government approved the Film Policy in 2017 and is working on establishing film schools. The Government is in full swing implementing the digital migration process from an analogue platform in order to increase broadcasting capacity,” read the statement. “Both private and national media houses will demand more and quality local content which will increase opportunities for the local film production houses and the consequent increase in employment. Zambian filmmakers therefore need to be prepared to meet these opportunities.” This year, SOTAMBE Film Festival clocks five years and submissions from local and international filmmakers are already being invited for the event that will take place in September. “All local and international filmmakers are invited to submit their projects in any of the following categories: Documentary, Feature Film, Short Film (max 10 minutes), Cartoon/Animation and TV Series (2 episodes).Submissions are made online via https://bitly. com/SDFAF2018,” the statement read.
