AFCON CYCLING TEAM PICKED
THE Cycling Association of Zambia (CAZ) has unveiled a five-member team to compete at the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations championship scheduled for next month in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Zambian team has Agoster Jilowa, Michael Olean, Ryan Ellis, Omar Mweene and Bedias Tunkanya .
CAZ president Peter Chintu said the team has already kicked-off preparations for the competition which will run from February 13 to 18 in Kigali.
Chintu said he was expecting a good performance from the team.
“A team of five bikers will represent Zambia at the cycling Afcon tournament next month. I would not really focus on medals at this stage but a good exposure for the cyclists. They have been training and are geared for the competition,” he said.
He commended Kansanshi Mine for sponsoring the team to the AfCON.
He said the Mine remained a key player in the development of sport in Zambia as its sponsorship is rendered to various sporting disciplines.
“I wish to thank Kansanshi Mine for their unwavering support to cycling. It is my hope that other corporate companies will come on board to support the sport,” he said.
Chintu said the association faced financial challenges last year though the athletes remained resolute and performed well in the league.
