East cholera claims 2
THE cholera outbreak in Eastern province has so far killed two people, including a Malawian national.
According to the cholera update released by the Ministry of Health provincial office, the unidentified Malawian national was brought in dead at Mwami Mission Hospital from the neighbouring country and his body tested positive for cholera.
As at January 11, 2018, Lundazi district had 14 cases with one death while Sinda district recorded two cases with no death and Chipata had one case with no death.
So far, 13 cholera patients had been discharged in Lundazi, two cholera patients had been discharged in Sinda, while one in Chipata where the other patient was still in isolation awaiting culture examination.
The cholera update further revealed that todate Lundazi had recorded 14 cases out of which five were confirmed cholera cases while 13 patients had been discharged and one died.
In Sinda, two people had cholera and both had been discharged after being treated.
The neighbouring Katete district had so far not recorded a confirmed cholera case but only two suspected cases awaiting culture examination results.
As for the provincial center Chipata, only one case was recorded in the city on January 7, 2018 but the patient has since been discharged after undergoing treatment.
