KABWE VENDORS’ MARKET INTEGRATION ON COURSE
The integration of street vendors in Kabwe district is progressing well with about 1,320 so far allocated spaces in Green and New Kasanda Markets within town, says integration committee chairperson, Collins Mumbai. Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview, Mr Mumba said about 420 have also been integrated at Kachulu, Railway and Chimanimani markets of Katondo, Railway and Chimanimani townships.
He revealed that there was enough space left at railway market which has accommodated 50 so far, adding that the remaining vendors that are looking for space in Green market would be taken there as the market was already fall.
" The integration of street vendors is going on very well, we have so far integrated 800 at New Kasanda, 300 at Kachulu, 400 at Green market with Railway market having 50 vendors.
"I must make mention also that we still have plenty of space at railway market and we are relying on this market to integrate the remaining vendors that wanted to go to Green market which is already full," said Mr Mumbai.
He however highlighted lack of toilets with proper sanitation at some markets in Bwacha, Mukubeko and Chimanimani as some of the challenges the committee was facing in the integration process.
Mr Mumba however pointed that the committee has no challenge with the other markets and has since appealed to Lukanga Water and Sewerage Company to ensure continued supply of water to prevent the outbreak of cholera in markets places.
The integration committee formed by the Kabwe municipal council, consists of eight members with Mayor, Prince Chileshe and the Town Clear, Ronald Dana as additional officials.
