Ndola chamber joins cholera fight
AS Ndola on the Copperbelt records one case of Cholera, the Ndola Chamber of Commerce and Industry has contributed equipment to Ndola City Council worth over K250, 000 to fight the cholera epidemic in the District.
Ndola Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Ashiwini Sagar said the Chamber of Commerce had joined hands with Ndola City Council and Government to supplement efforts towards the cholera eradication.
Speaking during the contribution, Mr Sagar explained that the gesture followed a protracted meeting with the local authority to identify what was needed to carry out the cleaning exercise.
"The organization is concerned with the high numbers of people that are getting infected with cholera that is why we saw it fit to partner with the local authorities. "Materials donated include diesel, front loaders, tipper trucks, disinfectants, facemasks, lab coats, work suits, brooms and safety ware among other items," he noted.
Meanwhile Mr. Sagar appealed to the government to build permanent markets for traders that had been removed from the streets.
He said most vendors depended on their small businesses for survival and had become more vulnerable now that they had been removed from the streets.
And Ndola Chamber of Commerce and Industry Publicity Chairperson, Paul Chisunka observed that the disease had a negative impact on productivity.
Mr Chisunka also urged the council to provide alternatives for the displaced traders, in terms of public and private partnerships when it came to building new markets to promote the livelihoods of the people who had lost their ability to have an income.
