Majaka is Yamoto head coach

- By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

CITY of Lusaka have appointed Francis Majaka as head coach of Yamoto team.

The former City player takes over from Italian coach Roberto Landi and will be assisted by Charles Kafula. The duo have been tasked to bring Yamoto back to Super Division.

But general manager of the newly registered City of Lusaka Plc, Simataa Simataa, said the recruitment of the new coach was illegal unless the Justin Zulu executive had created another football team.

Simataa emphasised that the executive was redundant and had no authority to conduct interviews or appoint coaches.

“I don’t even want to refer to that executive, because they are redundant. We have already cautioned people not to associate with any other persons apart from the Plc. We are yet to conduct players’ trials nor appointed a coach for the team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zulu was happy with the appointments of Majaka and Kaula by the technical committee chaired by Desmond Mugawa.

He urged the duo to hit the ground running as soon as possible to ensure the team manages to win promotion to Super Division.

“I am happy that the technical committee led by Mugawa has done its work professionally. There was transparency in the whole process of recruiting the new coach. Adverts were placed in the newspapers and received applications over 30 coaches which included Europeans,” he said.

He called on the City members to support the technical bench for the team to bounce back to Super League.

Majaka was in charge of Yamoto when they won promotion to super league in 2006. He also guided Nkwazi to Super Division in 2014.

Kafula is a former City, Red Arrows and Roan United player.
