Take care of sewer, ndola residents told
IT is vital to aggressively talk to the members of the public in various communities of Ndola District on how to take care of their sewer systems, Ndola City council town clerk, Wisdom Bwalya has said.
Mr Bwalya said the lack of responsibility by some members of the public had led to the blockage of sewer systems in the district.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation during a tour to inspect blockages of sewer systems in Masala Township, Mr Bwalya noted that a lot of money and time had been invested in unblocking sewages.
"It is imperative that Ndola City Council together with Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company should sensitise the communities on how to take care of their sewages. "Civic leaders should also be engaged in the sensitisation process to curb this problem as they are part of the communities out there, " he advised.
Mr Bwalya thanked Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company for quickly responding to the cry of the residents of Masala Township and offering ways in which the problem could be dealt with.
And Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company acting director of engineering, Rabson Ngulube said the water company would continue to talk to the public about taking responsibility.
Mr Ngulube noted that without sensitizing the residents on how to take care of their sewage systems, the problem of blockages would not cease as they will continue dumping things in their sewages and expect the local authorities to keep unblocking their sewage, which was a waste of resources. Over a month ago, Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company started installing a new sewer line of 2km worth over US $1000,000 whose works would be completed in May this month.
