- By MAILESI BANDA

OVER K121 million has been disbursed by the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) to fund 1, 652 manufacturing projects as part of the Value Chain Development Programme.

CEEC Director-General Likando Mukumbuta said the value chain project has so far reached 58 districts.

The programme, which is being rolled out in all provinces since 2013 has so far funded 1, 652 Zambian owned projects.

According to a press statement made available to the Daily Nation, by CEEC public relations and communications manager, Khozi-Mwila, Mr Mukumbuta said it has so far mobilised funds to finance more projects in 2018.

“The CEEChas mobilised resources to finance 7,600 projects in 2018 mostly in the cassava and aquaculture value chains of which 50 percent will go to women and 30 percent to youths,” he said.

Mr. Mukumbuta said the CEEC is expecting a busy year in which the construction of industrial yards will take off in seven provinces.

He said that 92 percent of the projects are being implemented in rural areas where Zambians have taken up many businesses such as mango processing in Mongu and cotton processing in Mumbwa, peanut butter processing in Petauke and water-bottling in Zimba.

He said others have invested in stockfeed manufacturing in Kasama.

He stated that CEEC’s economic transformation programme has gained momentum with processing plants for starch, palm oil and dairy products expected to open in Solwezi, Mwense and Mpika within the first quarter of this year.
