Don’t incite people to riot, says DC
AN opposition party is said to be inciting the public in Mwinilunga to rise against government over measures put in place to curb the possible outbreak and spreading of cholera in the district.
District Commissioner Danny Bukali told the Daily Nation in an interview that it is unfortunate that people can reach to such an extent of politicising the issue at hand instead of bringing their heads together in fighting the disease.
He said it was the responsibility of every Zambian to join hands and avoid the spread of the disease in the district.
“it is very unfortunate. But they were ashamed because people started telling them that the disease is not choosing any political party instead it affects everybody,’’ Mr Bukali said.
Mr. Bukali said various stakeholders including the Church had come on board and are happy that government had put in place measures to ensure that the disease did not spread in the district.
He said the exercise of closing down some business premises in the district was being done because government wanted to ensure that the district was disease free.
“So, until a time when we are advised that the district is disease free, people would continue with their normal businesses,’’ he said.
He said it was government’s responsibility to protect its citizens.
“So, for those politicians that want to politicise this issue thinking they can take advantage of the situation they are ashamed because no one is listening to them.
“And I would like to warn those disgruntled politicians going round inciting people that they will be dealt with severely,’’ he said.
