MCA boosts Lusaka water distributi­on

By LINDA SOKO TEMBO THE Millennium Challenge Account Zambia- (MCA) has embarked on a $48 million USA water contract project aimed at increasing water distributi­on in Lusaka.

MCA Communicat­ion and Outreach Director, John Kunda said MCA had begun installing big water pipes from Libala water works to increase the volume of water supply.

Dr. Kunda said apart from rehabilita­tion works that were going on at the Lolanda water treatment plant in Kafue which had reached 70 percent they were also expanding the water network in the city.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Dr. Kunda explained that big pipes would be connected aimed at increasing the flow of water in the city adding that this was part of the $48 million USA contract project.

“Apart from rehabilita­tion works at Lolanda water treat- ment plant in Kafue district, we are also expanding the network for water in Lusaka starting from Libala water works,” he said.

Dr Kunda explained that the project had targeted Libala and Chibolya, Soweto market Lumumba water reservoir that supplies water to Matero and the Central Business District (CBD). He said the project would also extend to Stewart Park at State House, Kalingalin­ga and Great East road joining the many pipes that were in Chelstone and Avondale area.

Dr Kunda was confident that the project that began in 2016 would come to an end in November this year.
