I’m not ditching FDD, says Antonio Mwanza

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) spokesperson Antonio Mwanza has refuted suggestions that he will soon ditch the party as he was reportedly not happy with dictatorial tendencies exhibited by some leaders within the rank and file.

Impeccable sources within the FDD have told the Daily Nation that Mr. Mwanza was not happy with the way the party was being run where he was allegedly being used by certain individuals as a front to make a fortune for themselves.

The sources said Mr. Mwanza was scheduled to resign this weekend though he had not yet decided his next step as he was allegedly fed up with the way the party was running where a few individuals dictated its affairs while the rest were only required to follow.

“He is supposed to resign either tomorrow (today) or Sunday depending on what he will decide. His reasons for resigning are that he feels he has been used by some leaders as a front for their personal benefit at the expense of party development and this has been eating him up for long time.

Mr. Mwanza is one of the most trusted people who have served the party so passionately but it is now clear that the party is not meeting his aspirations for a better FDD.

“For now, he has decided not to join any other political party. Of course the PF and UPND have been hot on his heels, wanting him to join them because of his political acumen but he is still trying the waters to see where exactly he will perfectly fit in.

For UPND, we even hear that they have reserved the vice presidency for administration for him,” an impeccable source said.

But when contacted for a comment, Mr. Mwanza said he was not going anywhere as he was “very much FDD” and that such reports must be treated as a rumour until when and if he decides to resign.

“Me resigning? Let us treat this information as a rumour but if it happens, then it is real. If I resign from FDD where am I going? I am very much FDD” Mr. Mwanza said.
