Keep Kabwe clean campaign revamped
We have revamped the Keep Kabwe Clean campaign which has been inactive for over two years due to some challenges the committee has been facing, says chairperson, Victor Sikutwa.
Mr Sikutwa said the committee has not been meeting for over two years because of a few challenges among them transfers in councils which is the main stakeholder in the clean campaign.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the civic centre, Mr Sikutwa said the committee would ensure that Kabwe town is kept clean in line with attaining a city status.
“As a committee, we had a few bottlenecks and have not met in over two years mainly because of transfers in councils as the main stakeholder but we are back and to us this is the first meeting. The next one to be held soon will aim at coming up with concerted efforts in cleaning the Central Business District, “said Mr Sikutwa.
Mr Sikutwa said the committee would ensure that all infrastructure in the CBD that had been adopted by the business community were maintained.
And Mr Sikutwa has challenge councillors to plant three trees in their respective wards every year and ensure that they grow in order to beautify Kabwe town.
He has urged Kabwe residents to also plant two trees in their yards as stakeholders in keeping Kabwe clean.
Speaking earlier, Kabwe-Mukuyu Lions Club president Leroy Kazembe said the Mukuyu tree heritage site that the club has adopted would be easy to maintain without being exploited by street vendors that used to sell under the tree now that vending has been suspended.
