MEET JAY10: A PROMISING SONGBIRD

- By TERENCE MISELO

COMBINING music and education has always been very difficult for most Zambian artistes and Jay10, born Jennifer Kabwe, is not an exception.

On average, most artistes that have been successful and active in full-time music have either abandoned school or have taken a break. With Jay10, her mission is to maintain a balance between her music and school.

" I know you really can't serve two masters at a go, and I know one of the two has to suffer, but I have banked on a strategy that will help me keep the balance," says Jay10 who is currently in her second year at the University of Zambia and also pursuing music on the side-lines.

She admits that besides her busy school schedule, her passion for music is what has given her the motivation to come out with new releases this year in readiness for her debut album.

Her music genre has always been Afro-pop with a blend of R&B. Listening to her music, one would get the feeling she is probably American or from Europe but her defence has been; "I have always had the passion for for international sound so I fell in love with Pop and Afro-pop which has blended so well with my voice."

And evidently so, Jay10's voice is her biggest strength that will make her become one of Zambia's promising songstress.

So far, she has recorded and released commendable tracks including 'Total pa Total' and 'Pana' the Tekno cover. This is music that is totally different from what is common and Jay10 wants to keep it that way.

"I want to make music that is rather unique but has a following and people can relate to," she adds as she focusses her attention on completing her album set for this April.
