Southern minister survives RTA

SOUTHERN Province minister Edify Hamukale yesterday sustained minor injuries, when his ministeria­l vehicle was involved in a road traffic accident after hitting a boy, 7 as he crossed the Great North road.

Police spokespers­on Esther Katongo said the pedestrian, a seven year old boy, Godbless Siachisamu of bridge park in Kalomo, sustained a deep cut on the fore head and is admitted to the district hospital.

Ms Katongo who confirmed the accident said the minister has since been taken to Livingston­e General hospital for further treatment.

Ms Katongo explained that the accident occurred when the boy was crossing the road from the Western to Eastern direction and he was hit by the motor vehicle. The driver reportedly lost control in an attempt to avoid hitting the boy and over turned in the process.

Ms Katongo said the Toyota land cruiser registrati­on number GRZ 733CN was being driven by Macmillan Mwanamwale aged 43 of Show grounds area in Choma.

“There was a serious road traffic accident which occurred today (yesterday) January 21, 2018 around 07:50 hours along Great North Road about 2km South of Kalomo town.”

“A Toyota Land cruiser GX registrati­on number GRZ 733CN which was driven from North to south and the passenger was minister of Southern Province, Hon Hamukale Edify of River Side in Choma, who sustained minor injuries,” said Ms Katongo.
