Councilor backs Lungu

- By ROGERS KALERO

PRESIDENT Lungu has not been responding to provocative statements from some disgruntled politicians because he is focused on setting a firm and strong stage for economic recovery and national development as opposed to mudslinging, Itimpi ward councilor Mpasa Mwaya has said.

Speaking at her first general meeting on Saturday, Ms Mwaya said construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure like roads, houses, hospitals and clinics was a clear indication that President Lungu and the PF wanted to set the stage for economic recovery.

Ms Mwaya said a number of major developmental projects including construction of a police station and 35 houses for police officers, road rehabilitation, and construction of a clinic and upgrading of Ganerton primary school into a secondary school would start this year in Itimpi ward.

She was confident that with support from President Lungu, the Ward Development Committee (WDC) and the residents, she would fulfill her campaign promises.

“Let us not find faults in each other but instead have a common goal of developing Itimpi ward. Fault finding will only derail our efforts to develop this area. This is why President Lungu has not been responding to those who provoke him because he knows their aim is to distract him from achieving his goal of improving people's lives

“So even us, let us not entertain petty politics of fault-finding and name-calling, but let us work together, we have a number of developmental projects which would improve our lives in Itimpi ward,” " Ms Mwaya said.

She said, because of the increased crime rate and bad state of the roads, she had to fight hard to ensure a police station was constructed and Itimpi received 16 kilometres of roads to be rehabilitated.

And residents of Itimpi ward said they were confident that the councilor would fulfill her campaign promises because she always responded to their cries on a number of issues.

One of the residents Bertha Tembo said Ms. Mwaya had so far proved that she was a caring leader who abandoned her own business to attend to urgent matters in the ward.
